NEW VID: Learn to Crawl  
Here is my premiere for this year. It's a sequel to 2007's "Falling From the Sky."

This is an idea I had years ago when first vidding BSG femslash, but I knew I wasn't ready to make it yet. (One, because it was a Big Idea vid that scared me. Two, I didn't know what the hell I was doing.) For a long time I wasn't sure it would actually happen. I'm very glad it did.

To comment on the source, it was such a treat to have actual eyesex to work with instead of having to construct my own. I appreciated that. And them being all up in each other's faces. And loving golden showers. Thank you, Starbuck and Kat, for boinking for 3 seasons and letting me watch.

More than anything, the vid represents my coming full circle. It's a very personal vid for me for that reason. I was able to take all the motion, cutting, and pacing things I've learned over the last few years and apply it to the source that is still so deep in my heart. This marks the end of this first era of my vidding life, and I am content. I have learned to crawl. I have no idea what the next era will look like, but I'm excited to find out.

I really enjoyed this. I loved the bouncing of the credits to echo the bouncing of the vipers. And love the way you portrayed the relationship between the two of them. Lots of emotion pouring off this vid.

Thank you, barkley! The credits were fun to do. I knew what I wanted before I started sketching out the vid, and they ended up being really symbolic of what the vid represented (Starbuck and Kat coming together from different places, moving together, and exploding *g*). Yay for unintentional cool stuff!

I loved this vid a lot -- I can't wait to watch it again. You do such a beautiful job with the slashiness inherent in the source, and I love the balance between the intimate (eyesex) and the grand-scale (flying.)

I didn't get a chance to tell you so on the weekend, but I absolutely adored this vid - it's the Starbuck/Kat vid I've always wanted. I love how you manage to go through relatively chronologically without making it feel like you're rehashing the show at all - instead it feels like you're revealing the show and their relationship to us. The ending is, just, perfect, and made me tear up a little at the premieres show. There aren't enough gorgeous femslash-pairing vids, so I'm so glad to have this one to watch over and over again. Definitely one of my favourites from the premieres show. <3

This was definitely a challenge of the vid, considering I had 4 episodes I was pulling almost everything from (1.04, 2.08, 2.15, 3.10) and I needed to show them mostly in order. I was able to play with a few elements mixing them around, but I was worried it would feel like a rehash. Thank you for helping ease my mind!

Wonderfully done. I'm always impressed by what moments you find and how you put them together. There's so much creativity in how you build your story.

did I do something wrong? I can only download the song - which I think is perfect and is my new favorite song but I can't view the video when I open what I've downloaded. Thanks - based on the above comments this sounds like it's going to be a great vid!

Ah, you probably need to download/install the xvid codec. This happens a lot, as that codec isn't standard in most operating systems.

Oh, wow. The rhythm was wonderful! And...you made me like Kat for a while there. I honestly couldn't stand her--up until her final episode, when I cried. But the editing and the music...I loved the video.

Like I told you at the con, I love this vid for two reasons. First, it's an amazing vid -- seriously, I think it's destined to become one of the classics of femslash -- that captures the intense relationship between these characters beautifully and that does so largely by balancing clips of their intense eyefucking with clips of the action and violence and danger that keep them on a near-perpetual adrenalin spike that fuels that very intensity, and wow do I ever need an exit strategy for this sentence. Second, on a meta (and personal) level, it is just SO COOL to see you coming back to the show of your heart, and back to femslash, armed with everything you've learned through making other vids.

I totally get why you see this as the end of an era, and holy crap, what an era it's been. This vid is a brilliant wrap-up of what you've done so far, and a fantastic launching pad for whatever comes next. I know you're worried that you won't have much time for vidding in the months to come, but I am absolutely certain that this year's VVC vids alone ensure that whenever you do get back to it, you will have an enthusiastic audience waiting for you.

I can't tell you what it means to hear that. I was so worried that I'd fall into the "it's been done" category (BINGO!) after FFtS. Like, "come on, John, do something new." But this really was something I needed to do for me, to see that yes, I have grown, and what better way than by returning to my homeland.
